Proofreading
We will check your copy for errors in spelling and punctuation; for misplaced and missing apostrophes; for inconsistencies in typographical style, faulty capitalisation and incorrect use of English. An eye is kept out for instances of tautology, redundant words and other blemishes.
Editing
This area overlaps to an extent with that of proofreading but often requires the reworking of sentences in the interest of clarity. Text is scrutinised for mistakes in grammar and syntax. Wrong English usage is corrected. The general tone of the author's writing and the effect he or she desires are borne in mind. Not infrequently, errors of fact are detected and corrected.
Web page copy
The potential number of visitors to your site is enormous. A retailer would hardly seek to attract customers by putting shoddy goods in a shop window, yet many websites, large and small, show their pages to the world without ensuring that they are thoroughly proofread and tidied up.
Whatever a website's business may be -- retailing, service provision, information -- one mistake in spelling, grammar or English usage can turn discerning would-be customers away.
